Jindal Global Law School and National Law School Get Global Recognition by QS World University Rankings

National Law School Bangalore and Jindal Global Law School were the first Indian law universities to get featured in the QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) world university rankings. Not just universities of engineering and medical sciences, Indian law universities are also making their mark in the global rankings.

Now, the Jindal Global Law School (JGLS) has been ranked 76 out of all the law schools globally according to the QS World Rankings by Subject (Law) 2021. With this rank, the school has taken a significant leap from the 101-150 bracket in the previous year. This feat has made JGLS the number one law school in the country again and the only Indian Law School which has been ranked this year. Its rank is 33 and 58 in the world as per the parameters of 'Employer Reputation' and 'Academic Reputation' in the QS World University Rankings 2021.

JGLS has made its place alongside some of the top-notch law schools such as the University of Manchester, University of Bristol, and George Washington University. It has also ranked above the reputed law schools such as the University of Warwick, University of Nottingham, Griffith University, University of Leeds, York University, Cardiff University, and SOAS in the UK. JGU's academic reputation in 'Social Sciences and Management' has witnessed an increase of 10% as compared to the last year which highlights the impact of research done by the faculty members of JGU.

Mr Naveen Jindal, OP Jindal Global University's Founding Chancellor said that this achievement by JGLS has put India on the world map of offering high-quality legal education, research and training.

HRD Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal claims that the law universities shining bright in the QS rankings is the result of the continuous efforts of the government. It promotes the environment of innovation and research in educational institutions.

As per the reports, out of all the law schools across the world, Jindal Global Law School and National Law School Bangalore are the only two law schools of India to make it to the list of global university rankings. OP Jindal Law School entered the rankings in the 100 to 150 bracket whereas the National Law School Bangalore has been ranked in the top 150 to 200 universities.

In 2020, only 300 law institutes were ranked. The founding Vice-Chancellor of JGU (Jindal Global University), Raj Kumar expressed his delight and said that this is an extraordinary and exceptional institutional moment to witness for JGU. The university has been ranked as number one in India and falls under the ranking of 101- 150 in the world. All the schools of JGU are on the path of getting recognition globally.

Harvard University, Yale University and Stanford University are the glocal universities to top the QS ranking. Other top colleges or institutions in India including JNU (Jawaharlal Nehru University), All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), and University of Delhi (DU) improved their ranking on the global scale. It is believed that the colleges are measured keeping in mind the academic reputation, research quality, graduate placements and accomplishments.

JNU moved up two spots and ranks 162 among the top 500 universities. AIIMS and Delhi University were ranked 231 in the medicine and humanities field respectively.

In the sphere of engineering and technology, five institutes of India ranked in the top 100 universities. In 2019, only 3 Indian institutes could break into the QS World University rankings. The five institutes making it to the top-ranked 100 universities are IIT Delhi, IIT Madras, IIT Bombay, IIT Kharagpur, and IIT Kanpur.

The good news for the law discipline is that of the 12,000 law schools across the globe Jindal Global Law School and National Law School Bangalore are the only two law schools to make it to the global university rankings.

QS analysed around 22 million papers ranked a total of 1,368 institutions this year. The global ranking was done across 48 subjects, 159 locations and 5 broad categories.
