Over 3K Students Admitted into Top Colleges Under PMSSS Scheme
More than 3,000 J & K students have enrolled in various colleges under PMSSS.
Various professional colleges all over India have admitted more than 3,000 students belonging to Jammu and Kashmir, curtsey Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS).
On the conclusion of first day of counselling of PMSSS, Naeem Akhtar, Jammu and Kashmir’s Education Minister was informed about the same when he visited Amar Singh College.
The spokesperson proudly said that about 2,372 seats out of 2,401 seats filled and in case of general courses, 842 seats have been filled out of total 1,089 seats. Furthermore, 159 medical seats are also added to the total number of seats filled under PMSSS, making the total number of seats 3,373.
Unlike last year, when only 900 students were admitted under PMSSS, this year more than 3000 seats have found their place in various colleges outside the state, making this the highest recorded number of seats filled under PMSSS.
PMSSS’s first round of counseling was conducted on July 26 by two colleges, i.e
- Amar Singh College
- Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.
According to Akhtar, more than 6000 students registered themselves for admission in various colleges outside the state, under PMSSS this academic year.
Some of the top notch colleges in which the students from Jammu and Kashmir have been admitted into are:
- Delhi College of Engineering
- Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology
- St Stephens College, Delhi
- University Institute of Engineering and Technology, Rohtak
- Lady Shri Ram College for Women, Delhi
The admission procedure under PMSSS has been fine-tuned in such a manner by the state’s Education Department and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) that the students only enroll themselves in recognised and reputed colleges.
The spokesperson also mentioned about the selection procedure: According to PMSSS, first preference will be given to students who have given their 12th class exams last year, if the seats are still left unfilled, the left over seats will be allotted to students who gave 12th exams in the previous year.
