Parents from Odisha have expressed their concern over the decision of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to withdraw its international curriculum CBSE-i from the next academic session.

DAV Public School, Pokhariput in Bhubaneswar was the only school in Odisha to impart CBSE international curriculum. There were 100 students studying under the curriculum, which was launched in 2013. Children of the school were showing good results. Now, after the abrupt scrapping of the syllabus, parents and the school are planning to write to CBSE to reconsider its decision.

The Principal of the School, Ms. Sujata said that they got a circular from the Chairman of CBSE about the discontinuation of the CBSE-i curriculum from the 2017-18 academic session. The students studying CBSE-i would be shifted to CBSE general curriculum. The Board did not give them time to wrap up their current course.

Many schools had opted the international curriculum and deposited the required amount. They also developed special infrastructure like smart class, smart board, latest teaching materials, extra books and invested a huge amount in training of the teachers. The course was quite popular among the students of the elite class, as it was less expensive than other international courses.

The principal also said that the curriculum was different from the conventional one of CBSE. The teaching process was that of an interactive mode and activity based. Parents want it to continue. All 54 schools in India that offered the international curriculum are planning to write to CBSE to revert back its decision.

Bandita Das, a parent said that CBSE should not experiment with the small children. In this global age, students should get exposure to a global standard curriculum.
