Professor Krishna N Ganesh Assumes Charge as Director of IISER Tirupati

Professor Krishna N Ganesh assumed charge as new Director of Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Tirupati. Addressing the media on November 6, 2017, Professor Ganesh pointed that the presence of two premier institutes in Tirupati – Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Tirupati and IISER Tirupati would enable collaborations in different fields such as resources, research and talent. He lauded the efforts of state government and central government for establishing two premier institutes in one location.

Adding further, Professor Ganesh said that it is highly rare to find two educational institutes of national importance at one location and spend time as neighbours. He added that Tirupati is widely known as ‘Temple City’ and the establishment of two premier institutes here will transform it into a premier ‘Education Centre’.

Explaining about the advantages of sharing resources between the two institutes, Professor Ganesh pointed that these two institutes would not only concentrate on associations in teaching and research but the combination of sciences and engineering.

Giving details about the construction of permanent IISER campus, Professor Ganesh revealed that they would appoint an architect for building the main campus. The idea is to accommodate the students by 2019. The main campus will be highly eco-friendly with the inclusion of modern concepts. The main campus will also exhibit the vision of institute through imaginative environs.

Professor Ganesh said that building infrastructures such as lecture halls, food court, hostels and UG labs is expected to be completed by 2019. Proactive steps are being taken for the faster implementation of the plan.
