Punjab Government to form Regulatory Authority to Monitor Private Universities

In a move to monitor the private universities Punjab Government is going to draft of a regulatory authority to monitor these Universities.

This was disclosed by Punjab Higher Education and Languages Minister, Surjit Singh Rakhra while expressing his concern over the exploitation of students by the private universities.

According to a report in Press Trust of India (PTI), Rakhra said, "A meeting should be convened immediately to prepare the draft of the regulatory authority and discuss each and every aspect minutely. He reiterated that Punjab government is committed to the welfare of the students and their exploitation, if any, by the private universities would not be tolerated."

Rakhra also reviewed 11 government colleges that are under construction. He said that financial arrangements have been made in sufficient measure regarding the colleges and studies must begin in these colleges from next academic session. He also surveyed the skill development projects being under taken in 13 colleges of the state.

Talking about the senior professors promotions, Surjit Singh Rakhra is going to hold a meeting of Department Promotion Committee (DPC) next January so as to promote senior professors to the post of principals.
