Tamil Nadu Government: Steps Being Taken to Fill Vacant Posts of VCs
- Tamil Nadu govt. has informed the Madras High Court bench that steps are being taken to fill posts of Vice Chancellors in all Universities of the state.
- Also, a search panel has been established to shortlist suitable Vice Chancellors.
The government of Tamil Nadu has informed the Madras High Court bench that the state government has taken steps to fill posts of Vice Chancellors in all Universities of the state, in its counter as a response to a PIL filed by R. Raja Selvan asking to appoint Vice Chancellors for the state Universities.
The Tamil Nadu government has informed the High Court that Vice Chancellors for Chennai University and Madurai Kamaraj had already been appointed. Also, a search panel has been established to shortlist suitable Vice Chancellors for other universities of the state.

Justices N Athinathan and A Selvam has asked the state government to submit a detailed report on the various steps taken to fill the posts of Vice Chancellors and have kept the next hearing of the case on 11 July 2017.
The petitioner has apprised the court about the vacant post of the Vice Chancellor in Tamil Nadu Fisheries University and Dr. Ambedkar Law University . Also, universtites like Tamil Nadu Open University, Thiruvalluvar University , Bharathiar University and Tamil Nadu Teacher Education University don't have a registrar, while Madras University and Madurai Kamaraj University do not have a controller of examinations and registrars. Moreover, there is no dean in Ambedkar University.

The petitioner said that the administration of the universities had stopped operating properly since the of the posts at the higher level are vacant and asked the high court to direct the state government to fill all the vacant posts.
