Trifurcation of Bangalore University Will be Done in Academic Year 2017-18

The Bangalore University is expected to function as three separate varsities from the 2017-18 academic year.

However, it’s been almost 2 years since the state govt. had issued the notification about trifurcation of Bangalore University, still, it seems there is no movement on the ground. No concrete efforts that have been made to make the other two institutes functional. All the affiliated staff, departments, buildings and colleges continue to operate under the parent Bangalore University.

After a meeting with the officials of the varsity, Mr. Basavaraj Rayareddy, the higher education minister ensured that the three universities will start functioning from 1st June 2017 as an executive order will be issued by the state government. He added that the vice-chancellors of the other two new universities will be appointed before July.

The Bengaluru Central University’s headquarters will remain in the Central College while the Bengaluru North University will operate temporarily from the Karnataka State Open University building in Kolar. The process of transferring properties will take place shortly.

However, the two new universities are yet to receive funds from the state government. Although the proposal had been submitted in November by the committee formed to oversee the trifurcation. The special officer for Bengaluru Central had submitted a proposal. According to this, an expenditure of INR 1,000 crores is to be involved and an outlay of INR 485 crore.

The parent university has been asked to part with funds for the two new varsities. So far, the university has given INR 3 crore to the two new universities.
