UGC Amends Guidelines for Persons with Disabilities (PwD) Candidates
University Grants Council (UGC) issues a letter to the Universities seeking strict and fast actions to grant 1-hour extra time in exams to Persons with Benchmark Disabilities even if he/she is using a scribe.
A decision by University Grants Commission or UGC has been taken to grant 1 hour of extra time for a 3-hour examination to Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) even if he/she is using a Scribe or not. The University Grants Commission’s decision regarding Persons with Benchmark Disabilities came as an amendment of a norm that previously said only Persons with Disabilities not using a scribe will get the opportunity which was defined by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
Disabled persons looking forward to taking the benefit of the decision has to show proofs that he/she is able to appoint a scribe.

The practice of using a Scribe is popular among differently abled people for a long period of time. The differently abled students could not take the benefit of 1 compensatory hour if he/she was using a scribe. But on 21st February, University Grants Commission has issued the letter of new amendment to the universities seeking for fast application of the process.
The exams which last for less than an hour, the compensatory time will be calculated on a pro-rata basis. For example, for an examination of 1 hour, compensatory time will be 20 minutes.
