Affiliation of Sinhgad Dental College Revoked
MUHS has withdrawn the affiliation of Sinhgad Dental College for the 2026-27 academic year, citing violations of university norms and long-pending salary dues. New admissions will be halted, and current Sinhgad Dental College students will be shifted to other dental colleges.
The Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) has decided to revoke the affiliation of Sinhgad Dental College and Hospital, effective from the 2026-27 academic session, due to non-compliance with the provisions of the Maharashtra Public University Act. The college will stop accepting new students while moving its existing students to other dental colleges that operate as private institutions.
The decision will come into force from the 2026-27 academic year. TheSinhgad Dental Collegewill lose its right to enroll students for dental degree programs when the university withdraws its affiliation this year. The MUHS officials announced that all current Sinhgad Dental College students will be permanently shifted to other dental colleges in Maharashtra that have official authorisation to operate. The university will handle all aspects of the transfer process, which will depend on student performance, their chosen programs and available seats.
Why is Sinhgad Dental College Affiliation Revoked?
The University Council decision, which took place on January 23, 2026, reached its final outcome after MUHS established that Sinhgad Dental College breached the MUHS Act 1998 regulations and failed to meet the academic and administrative requirements which the university established.
MUHS has now revoked its affiliation for all dental undergraduate and postgraduate programs which Sinhgad Dental College offered. The decision followed after teaching staff and non-teaching staff members submitted multiple complaints, which mainly concerned the ongoing issue of unpaid salaries.
The staff grievances state that the management took back salaries which were paid for the time between August and November 2018 through cheque payments, which were supposed to be returned but never actually happened. The university has only provided basic pay to employees since December 2019 throughout the COVID-19 period, which lasted until May 2022, and all salary payments have been suspended since May 2024.
MUHS found that Sinhgad Dental College management failed to pay outstanding salary obligations after the university and judicial authorities issued multiple directives, which included penalties, written commitments, and assurances. This led to staff protests, which caused severe academic interruptions and stopped hospital operations, internal evaluations, and practical tests, resulting in major academic disruption for students.

Will Sinhgad Dental College Get Affiliation Again?
MUHS has clarified that the withdrawal of Sinhgad Dental Collegeaffiliationdoes not exempt the management from its financial responsibilities. The institute has been directed to immediately clear all outstanding salary payments to teaching and non-teaching staff and submit a compliance report. Only after full settlement and verification will the institution be allowed to apply afresh for renewal of affiliation, which will then be considered following a detailed inspection.
A senior professor from Sinhgad Dental College, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that salary delays began even before the COVID-19 pandemic. “Both teaching and non-teaching staff were affected. Although MUHS intervened after we filed complaints, the management repeatedly misled inspection teams by creating the impression that payments were being made. Salaries were routed through Anand Cooperative Bank, but cheques later bounced. Even during COVID, only basic pay was given. We have now formally approached Nashik University,” the professor said.
