CBSE Class 12 Physics Exam 2026 Repeated Questions

Some topics will have more weightage than others, depending upon the syllabus released by the Central Board of Secondary Education. Given below, we have compiled some repeated questions from important topics presented by CBSE over the last few years every now and then. You can solve this question after completing your syllabus:

Question 1. Find expressions for the force and torque on an electric dipole kept in a uniform electric field

OR

An electric dipole is held in a uniform electric field. (i) Using a suitable diagram, show that it does not undergo any translatory motion, and (ii) derive an expression for the torque acting on it and specify its direction.

(b) Derive an expression for the work done in rotating a dipole from the angle θ0 to θ1 in a uniform electric field E.

OR

(i) Define torque acting on a dipole of dipole moment → P placed in a uniform electric field → E.  Express it in the vector form and point out the direction along which it acts.

(ii) What happens if the field is non-uniform?

(iii) What would happen if the external field → E is increasing (i) parallel to → P and (ii) anti-parallel to → P?

Question 2. (i) Use Gauss' law to obtain an expression for the electric field due to an infinitely long, thin straight wire with uniform linear charge density λ.

(ii) An infinitely long positively charged straight wire has a linear charge density λ. An electron is revolving in a circle with a constant speed v such that the wire passes through the centre, and is perpendicular to the plane of the circle. Find the kinetic energy of the electron in terms of the magnitude of its charge and the linear charge density λ on the wire.

(iii) Draw a graph of kinetic energy as a function of linear charge density λ.

Question 3. Obtain an expression for the electrostatic potential energy of a system of three charges q, 2q, and -3q placed at the vertices of an equilateral triangle of side a.

Question 4. Derive an expression for the capacitance of a parallel plate capacitor when a dielectric slab of dielectric constant K and thickness t = d/2, but of the same area as that of the plates, is inserted between the capacitor plates. (d = separation between the plates).

Question 5. Define the term “drift velocity” of charge carriers in a conductor. Obtain the expression for the current density in terms of relaxation time.

Question 6. Derive an expression for the magnetic field at a point on the axis of a current-carrying circular loop.

Question 7. Derive an expression for the force per unit length between two long, straight, parallel current-carrying conductors. Hence, define the SI unit of current (ampere).

Question 8. (i) A straight, thick, long wire of uniform circular cross-section of radius ‘a’ is carrying a steady current I. The current is uniformly distributed across the cross-section. Use Ampere’s circuital law to obtain a relation showing the variation of the magnetic field (Br) inside and outside the wire with distance r, (r ≤ a) and (r > a) of the field point from the center of its cross-section. What is the magnetic field at the surface of this wire? Plot a graph showing the nature of this variation.

(ii) Calculate the ratio of the magnetic field at a point above the surface of the wire to that at a point below its surface. What is the maximum value of the field of this wire?

Question 9. Write any two points of difference between a diamagnetic and a paramagnetic substance.

Question 10. Electromagnetic waves of wavelengths λ1, λ2, and λ3 are used in radar systems, in water purifiers, and in remote switches of TV, respectively. (i) Identify the electromagnetic waves, and (ii) Write one source of each of them.

You will learn a lot through these repeated questions. If you are still not sure about your preparation, then you can also check out the CBSE Class 12 Physics Important Questions 2026 . You must also pick up the sample question papers available online to prepare well in advance.
