We will show you what these errors are and how you can identify them quickly in any given sentence. Get ready to shift error spotting from being your weakest point to becoming your strongest scoring point in JENPAS UG English!

Effective Techniques for Error Spotting and Correction in JENPAS UG

Here are some of the effective techniques for error spotting and correction in JENPAS UG with clear examples:

1. Reading the sentence, loud and clear

When you first see a sentence, don’t rush. Most of the time, the students skim through the sentences too quickly and end up making mistakes. So, take your time and read it slowly; think about whether it makes sense. That way, it is easier to see mistakes like subject-verb agreements or wrong tenses.

Example:

Sentence (Original)

What’s Wrong

Correct Sentence

She go to school every day.

The verb “go” does not match the singular subject “She”

She goes to school every day.

They is playing football.

The verb “is” does not match the plural subject “They”

They are playing football.

Tip: Ask yourself, Who is the one performing this action? What is the actual action? These simple questions will help you quickly identify any mistakes in your work.

2. Verify Subject-Verb Agreement Carefully

One of the most classical errors observed in JENPAS UG is the agreement between subject and verb. Singular subjects take a singular verb and plural subjects take a plural verb. Always verify the number of the subject first.

Example:

Subject

Correct Verb

Example Sentence

He/She/It

goes

He goes to school.

I/We/You/They

go

They go to school.

3. Focus on Tense Errors

Tense error is very common. Time indicators like yesterday, now, and tomorrow are helpful in determining what tense should be used in an instance. Before selecting the verb form, consider when the action occurs.

Example:

Sentence (Original)

What’s Wrong

Correct Sentence

He will went to the market yesterday.

“will went” is wrong because “yesterday” needs past tense

He went to the market yesterday.

I am eating breakfast tomorrow.

Present tense used for future action

I will eat breakfast tomorrow.

Note: Always remember to ask yourself the question, "What time did this happen?" to ensure that you choose the right verb tense.

4. Check for errors in the use of prepositions

Prepositions are small words such as in, on, at, of, for. Even though they are small words, they can change the entire meaning of a sentence. Always find out whether a given preposition fits naturally with the sentence or not.

Example:

Sentence (Original)

What’s Wrong

Correct Sentence

She is good in mathematics.

“in” should be “at”

She is good at mathematics.

He is afraid on dogs.

“on” should be “of”

He is afraid of dogs.

Tip: Note a brief list of some commonly used preposition phrases and practice them every day. A few examples are: interested in, afraid of, good at, and depend on.

5. Check Articles Carefully

Most of the errors made may be attributed to either a missing article or a wrongly placed one (a, an, the). Articles may be small words, but they are mighty and important for clarity. Ask yourself: Do I mean a general thing or a specific thing?

Example:

Sentence (Original)

What’s Wrong

Correct Sentence

I saw elephant in zoo.

Missing article

I saw an elephant in the zoo.

He went to school yesterday.

Correct usage

He went to the school yesterday.

Article Rules :

Article

Use Example

a

before consonant sound: a cat

an

before vowel sound: an apple

the

for specific nouns: the sun, the hospital

6. Spot Spelling Mistakes

Some sentences look grammatically correct, but have spelling mistakes. These mistakes are difficult to identify because they don't sound wrong, yet they will count against you in the test.

Example:

Sentence (Original)

What’s Wrong

Correct Sentence

She recieved the letter.

“recieved” spelling is wrong

She received the letter.

I beleive in honesty.

“beleive” spelling is wrong

I believe in honesty.

Tip: Write down words that you get stuck on and review them every day.

7. Check for Pronoun and Agreement Errors

Pronouns must match the nouns they replace in number and gender. Be careful when you use such terms as everybody, anybody, and each, for they usually require singular pronouns.

Example:

Sentence (Original)

What’s Wrong

Correct Sentence

Every student must submit their homework.

“their” is plural

Every student must submit his or her homework.

Someone forgot their bag.

“their” is plural

Someone forgot his or her bag.

8. Practice by Underlining and Correcting Errors

The best way to improve is to practice daily. Take a few sentences, underline the error, and provide a correction. This will help train the eye to identify mistakes much faster in the examination.

Example:

Sentence (Original)

What’s Wrong

Correct Sentence

She do her homework daily.

Subject-verb

She does her homework daily.

He go to market every day.

Subject-verb

He goes to market every day.

I am waiting since morning.

Preposition

I am waiting since morning.

9. Learn from Previous Year JENPAS UG Questions

Even for passage comprehension questions, there is the repetition of similar mistakes. Repeatedly attempting past papers gives one the knack of recognizing the patterns, enhancing the speed, as well as self-esteem.

Example:

Sentence (Original)

What’s Wrong

Correct Sentence

He is knowing the answer.

Wrong tense

He knows the answer.

They goes to market.

Subject-verb

They go to market.

Error spotting in JENPAS UG English can become your strongest section if you practice regularly and focus on common mistakes. Using examples and tables will make it easier and faster to spot errors.

Dear Student, For JENPAS UG 2025, most of the questions in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology come from your Class 11 and 12 NCERT syllabus. Focus more on Biology, as it carries the highest weightage. Biology: Human physiology, genetics, ecology, reproduction, diversity of living organisms, cell biology. Chemistry: Organic chemistry basics, biomolecules, chemical bonding, equilibrium, coordination compounds. Physics: Mechanics, optics, waves, laws of motion, thermodynamics, modern physics. Stick to NCERTs for concepts and practice MCQs daily. Biology should be your top priority, but don’t ignore the basics of Physics and Chemistry. Thank You
