It is important for the class 10th students to know the simplest formula in order to convert their marks into percentages. One of the simplest formulas to calculate the percentage of the marks is Percentage Formula, where one will have to divide the sum of the marks one has attained in all the subjects by the total number of marks available and then multiply this figure by 100 . As per Layman's definition, the marks-to-percentage formula is the total marks obtained in all the subjects, divided by the total marks in the exam, and multiplied by 100.

Applying this formula [(Actual Value/Total Value) x 100] can help the students to be aware of the accurate percentage they have achieved before applying to ensure they meet the university eligibility criteria. Example of How to Calculate the Percentage of Marks of 10th Class

In this section, we have provided a step-by-step example for you to understand how to calculate the percentage of Class 10th marks. Go through the steps given below:
Step 1
  • First of all, take the total marks obtained in all subjects.
  • Now add the marks you have obtained in each subject.
  • For example, if you have obtained 80, 75, 85, 95, 90, and 92 in 6 subjects, the total marks will be 80 + 75 + 85 + 95 + 90 + 92 = 517.
Step 2
  • Identify the best five subjects - the subjects you have scored the maximum marks.
  • It is to be noted that English has to be included as a compulsory subject. Apart from this, you need to take four other subjects with the highest marks.
  • For example, if English marks are 85, the best five subjects will be English (85), 90, 80, 92, and 95.
Step 3
  • Add the marks of the best five subjects.
  • Example: 80 + 85 + 90 + 92 + 95 = 442
Step 4
  • Multiply the number of subjects (5) by the maximum/total marks per subject (generally 100).
  • Total marks will be 5 x 100 = 500.
Step 5
  • Now to calculate the percentage, divide the total marks you have calculated in the best five subjects by the total possible marks for the best five subjects and multiply the figure by 100.
  • Percentage = 442/500 x 100
  • Percentage = 0.884 x 100 = 88.4
  • Hence the percentage of Class 10th marks is 88.4%.
Many scholarship programs across India as well as overseas admissions require a minimum percentage to qualify for a particular course. This makes the percentage calculations important for students who are seeking these opportunities. From the above information, students can now easily take out the percentage from the marks they have scored.
