During the admission process for the academic session 2017-18, the University of Delhi had collected the students’ fee in a centralised manner. The administration of DU assured that the fee that is collected from the students would be sent to the respective colleges after the DU Admission Process is wrapped up. It has been five months and the varsity is yet to return the students’ fee to 61 colleges. These colleges have been facing financial problems as the works at these colleges have been stalled.

According to sources, DU is yet to transfer Rs. 4 to 5 crore to each one of the 61 colleges. The colleges have already contacted the varsity numerous times but did not receive any response. The reason for the delay is unknown to many colleges. Moreover, it is the first time that DU colleges have been facing such kind of situation. Delay in disbursing the students’ fee is severely affecting the functioning of colleges.

DU introduced centralised admission process in 2014. Initially, the colleges used to collect the students’ fee. The process of collecting fee online was introduced in 2016. As per the process, DU collects the fees in two stages, i.e., registration fee and admission fee. Last year, the colleges received students’ fees on time.

Popular DU colleges are main sufferers, as they need to receive a big amount in the form of students’ fees. These colleges need to disburse the scholarships and plan infrastructural work with the fees received. The delay in disbursing the students’ fee has crippled the planned budget of the colleges for the current financial year.
