CBSE Class 10 Board Exam Twice a Year from 2026: Starting from 2026, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will conduct the Class 10 Board exam twice in a year in two different phases. As per the latest update, the first phase of the board exam will be mandatory for all Class 10 students, while the second phase, scheduled for May, will be optional and can be used as a means for score improvement.

Beginning with the academic session 2025–26, the Class 10 batch appearing for boards in March 2026 will be the first to take part in the biannual board examination system. If students are not satisfied with their performance, they will have the option to reappear for selected subjects in the second board exam session, which will be held later in May. The best score out of the two attempts will be considered as the final result. The second exam is an optional additional opportunity and can be taken in any three subjects out of Science, Maths, Social Science and two languages, CBSE said.

This dual-exam format is aimed at implementing the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020, at reducing academic stress, promoting continuous learning, and offering students more than one opportunity to excel. Along with it, the CBSE has emphasised that the change does not mean an increase in syllabus or academic load. Instead, the syllabus will be divided appropriately between the two sessions. CBSE Examination Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj said the results of the first exam will be announced in April, and those of the second in June.
