With an objective to examine the loopholes in CBSE Class 12 evaluation process, the Central Board of Secondary Commission (CBSE) has constituted a three-member panel. The duty of the panel is to fix responsibility for errors in totalling of marks. CBSE witnessed numerous totalling errors this year. Many students who applied for verification of marks saw an improvement in marks after the verification, that too with huge margins. Therefore, students and parents assumed that there might be chances of mistakes in the evaluation process. The High Court of Delhi also expressed its take on the same. The court also directed the Board to find ways to re-introduce re-evaluation of answer books.

According to the data of CBSE, only 2.47 percent of answer books were called for verification. The board received more than 2,000 cases from students who claimed that the marks went up to 26 or more after verification. Therefore, CBSE will now examine the loopholes in the evaluation process.

The three-member internal committee headed by Mr. Manoj Srivastava will make a visit to the regional CBSE centres, and enquire about the evaluation process. The committee will identify the wrongdoers and submit its report in two months. CBSE also constituted another committee to suggest improvements in the evaluation process which will submit the report in three months.

On June 20, 2017, CBSE and HRD Ministry discussed various discrepancies that arose with regard to the marks scored by Class 12 students. CBSE further claimed that totalling errors have become common in the past few years.

CBSE is also planning to conduct Class 10 & Class 12 board examinations earlier from the next academic session. The Board wants to give more time to teachers for completing the evaluation process. Usually, CBSE Class 12 exams start in the first week of March. From the next year, the board exams for Class 12 students might begin in the second or third week of February.
