IIT Kanpur Expels 18 Students Due to Poor Performance
Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur has terminated 18 students of its institute. Students who perform poorly were given the opportunity to enhance their grades. The decision was taken because the students were performing poorly despite the warnings.
The Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur has terminated 18 students of its institute. The seats of these students have been cancelled from the courses they were enrolled in. The decision was taken by IIT Kanpur because the students were performing poorly despite the warnings given to them.
IIT Kanpur Director, Mr. Manindra Agarwal said that the termination of students was a normal and lawful procedure.
He also informed that the students who perform poorly are given the opportunity to enhance their performance and grades. If these students fail to secure satisfactory marks, then the college takes action against them, added Agarwal.
Amongst the students terminated by IIT Kanpur were 09 undergraduate students and 9 postgraduate students.
The institute had also given these students an opportunity for mercy appeal. However, concession through mercy appeal was not provided to the very weak students.
Parents and guardians of these students have been informed by the institute about the termination. Sources also revealed that IIT Kanpur has also taken steps to ensure that the distressed students do not take extreme measures.

IN 2016, IIT Roorkee had also taken a similar approach and had expelled 72 of its students taking into account their poor academic performance. The students expelled were those who had scored less than 5 CGPA. However, the students were accepted back by the Institute after various protests and discussion with the concerned authorities.
