IIT Madras and Swinburne University (Australia) Collaborate for Joint Ph.D.
IIT Madras has partnered with Swinburne University, Australia to establish a joint research centre. This is the first joint Ph.D. programme of IIT Madras with a foreign university.
Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-M) has partnered with Swinburne University, Australia to establish a joint research centre. The main aim of the pact is to expand and enhance the research capacity of both institutions.
Bhaskar Ramamurthi, IIT-M, Director, signed the Memorandum of Understanding with Graham Goldsmith, Chancellor, Swinburne University. After signing the pact, the Swinburne delegation said that they plan to take the partnership to the next level. Also, Swinburne is the first Australian University to have a joint Ph.D. programme with IIT-M and many students have already enrolled for the same.

Over $300,000 have been sanctioned for a three-year period which will be shared equally between the two institutions. The association will focus on advanced manufacturing, materials, medical devices, AI, mathematics, smart farming, and biotechnology.

The new research centre at IIT-M will look for three new industry partnerships and over 15 Ph.D. students will be a part of 30 joint publications in the institute. The association will help the students to enhance their knowledge about research and broaden their horizons and skillset.
Likewise, IIT Madras also partnered with Thales University earlier this year to built a strong Indo-French research ecosystem. It aimed at providing the students with a world-class research environment. The programme also promotes cultural diversity and strengthening Indo-French relationships.
