Three students of IIT Kharagpur reached the finals of the global competition Shell Ideas360 . It brings together students from all over the world to develop strategies that will help in tackling the burden on the world's food, water and energy resources.
Gaurav Jain, Apurva Gajwani and Ankit Lohani teamed up and have been working for about a year to develop the solution to the problem of food security in the world.
"We understand that the students will be travelling to London for their final presentation as the institution representatives. We look forward for the Institute's continued support and guidance in coaching, mentoring the students in the coming days to help them win," said Swapnil Sharma, Recruitment Marketing Lead, Shell Technology Centre
After the research, they came up with a solution for farmers that provides an alternative low cost diagnostic option.
The team was guide by Prof. D K Swain from the Department of Agriculture and Food Engineering, IIT Kharagpur, who is also the guide and institution representative for Shell Ideas360.
A total of 982 ideas were presented in the competition out of which only 66 ideas were selected for the 2nd stage, making it a tough fight to the finals. Five teams made it to the finals, including the team from IIT Kharagpur.
The final will be hosted at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic ground in London on June 30 at 'Make the future London' event. Shell experts will enlighten the finalists on the subject and the final ideas will be presented to the jury comprising senior executives and subject experts.
The finalist teams are from India, Singapore (2 teams), USA and UK, who are contending for the esteemed Shell Ideas360 trophy and a National Geographic Adventure.
