Students of Jadavpur University Asked to Develop Concepts Amidst COVID-19 Outbreak
The students can submit their Proof of Concept (PoC) through the official JU website. Development of a working prototy[pe to begin as soon as the University laboratory opens.
The students of Jadavpur University have been asked by the Varsity’s Innovation Council to come up with innovative concepts to fight against the Coronavirus pandemic which has affected more than 10,000 people directly in the country. In addition to coming up with innovative ideas, the council has also requested the students to submit their proof of concept (PoC).
One such concept is the development of a tiny gadget that will be attached to the Electrocardiogram (ECG) machine which will help transmit the data or ECG recordings to the smartphone of the doctor via Bluetooth. According to a JU official, this concept will help the doctors monitor their critical patients from any place by simply looking at his smartphone screen displaying critical details like heart rate calculation etc. The official also reported that a team of students are already working on this new idea and due to its cost efficiency, critical patients in rural areas will benefit immensely from this technology.
Another concept has been suggested by the students which is installing a monitoring app in the phone of the quarantined people that will notify the local authorities if those step outside the quarantined zones. The JU officials seemed confident of working on both the concepts as and when the laboratory opens.

The students can submit their proof of concept level design to the University authorities during the lockdown period itself via any of the electronic submission methods. The shortlisted entries will go through a prototype development process as soon as the labs open.
Jadavpur University’s Centre for Appropriate Social Technologies (CAST) has developed a protective mask which is three-layered and can be easily prepared using materials available at one’s home. A JU official said a video regarding how to prepare a face mask using household materials has been circulated in all the social media platforms.
