Jamia Millia Islamia Launches Online Faculty Development Programme
Jamia Millia Islamia has introduced an online faculty development programme to ensure that the best practices for online teaching are taken up amid the 21-day lockdown across India due to the coronavirus pandemic.
In view of the coronavirus outbreak in India and the nationwide lockdown, Jamia Millia Islamia has introduced an online faculty development programme for all of its faculty members in order to promote and prepare them for online teaching.
This has also been initiated by the university to ensure that the best practices for online teaching are taken up amid this 21-day lockdown across India. The online development programme will help all the faculty members of JMI to understand how e-learning works.
The vice-chancellor of JMI, Najma Akhtar, earlier said that the coronavirus pandemic in India is not allowing the administration to hold any face-to-face teaching-learning.

In addition, the VC also said that more such ways of engaging JMI students will be introduced during this period. Many teachers have already taken part in this initiative using a number of e-learning tools and technologies. Platforms being used for the same include Instagram, WhatsApp group/ broadcast and other such social media platforms which make delivering online content much easier and faster.
Teachers are also emailing several learning materials picked from multiple portals like YouTube, open-source resources and so on. Many have also started making use of Google Classroom for online teaching and learning.
The VC of Jamia also mentioned that many faculty members are also using tools like Skype, Zoom, Google Hangouts, Google Chat, Google Meets and Cisco Webcast to not let this period be misspent by the students.

Classes in JMI were suspended from March 13 due to spread of the novel coronavirus in the country. Following the footsteps of Jamia, DUSU has also introduced online remedial classes for Delhi students.
