Karnataka NEET PG Seat Allocation Notification Stayed by Supreme Court

Supreme Court has put a stay on the future proceedings of a notification issued by the Karnataka government. As per the notification, a minimum of 10-year study is mandatory in the state to qualify for seats in government colleges for postgraduate medical programmes. Supreme court was a hearing a petition filed by various doctors of the state, which stated that the Karnataka government is violating their fundamental right to life and equality.

As per the stay order, there will be no publication of mock allotment results on 30 March 2018. Also, no further proceedings shall take place until the time judgment is delivered.

Medical Council of India- MCI showed their discontent and opposed to the notification issued by the Karnataka government. The MCI officials said that this is totally unfair as the PG medical seats in government colleges are very limited and they should not be subjected to such conditions which are against law. However, the Karnataka government defended their decision, according to them the decision is necessary so the state has more of skilled human resources.

According to the new NEET PG notification of Karnataka government, a candidate who is planning to apply for the same must be from Karnataka and should have pursued MBBS/BDS from one of the medical or dental colleges located in Karnataka or any other medical institute recognized by MCI or Dental Council of India. They should have also qualified NEET PG for admission to various postgraduate medical, diploma or dental programmes.
