Mizoram Yet to Receive the Funds for Setting Up the First Medical College in State
- MIMER will be the first medical college in the Mizoram state which will provide candidates with opportunities to pursue medical careers.
- The state is waiting for grants to complete construction of the institute.
The Centre is yet to sanction Rs 24.7 crore for the establishment up of the first medical college in Mizoram. The state had to receive a total amount of Rs 126.72 crore but they are yet to receive a grant of Rs 24.7 crore. Lal Thanzara, State Health Minister informed the assembly about the same and said that release of the fund is necessary to speed up the progress. So that the medical college is functional at earliest and they can start working at hiring faculty, non-teaching staff etc.

Dr. K. Beichhua, member of Mizo National Front (MNF), said that the state government is yet to receive an allocation of Rs 24.7 crore. Till date, the expenditure incurred in the establishment of the medical college is around Rs 18 crore and the institute is to be named as Mizoram Institute of Medical Education and Research.

The institute will be popularly known as MIMER and will be located in Falkawn near to Aizawl. As per the reports, around 90% of the construction such as building, administrative office and road has been completed. MIMER is going to be the first medical college in the state and is going to be one of the biggest development of the state. It will provide students who are keen to take up medical studies with an opportunity to pursue the same.
