Mumbai Colleges Raise Funds for Supporting Kashmiri Students Disconnected from Home!
Mumbai Colleges show its humanitarian face as the college staff is personally interacting and raising funds to help emotionally and financially distressed J&K students. Students have been urged to talk to these students and help ease their stress.
Many Mumbai colleges have come together to help students from Jammu and Kashmir who are currently studying in Mumbai Colleges. Due to the withdrawal of Article 370, there have been restrictions on the physical movement of the people and communication in the Valley.
The colleges in Mumbai and their principals came to talk with the Kashmiri students individually and to listen to their problems. Ashok Wadia, the Principal of Jai Hind College, Churchgate said that the talks with the Kashmiri students were held to listen and find a solution for the students who could not know what is happening back at home. While many students expressed anxiety about their families, many students informed the principal personally that they are falling short of money as they are disconnected from their family.
Mithibai College of Mumbai University located in Vile Parle started an initiative named ‘Home Away From Home'. The idea of the initiative is to bring together the students from different parts of the country and are currently residing in Mumbai, and help them get familiar with the city and make them settle down.
The principal of the college, Prof Rajpal Hande said that the college has more than 1,200 students living in Mumbai and are from 21 states. The college is happy to help in this need of the hour.. With this initiative, the staffs of the college recently conducted a counselling session for the Kashmiri students and also helped some of the students assessing their problems. In the past few weeks, the students taking part in the initiative have increased.

Many colleges across Mumbai have urged the students to be their Kashmiri classmates/ friends. Sobhana Vasudevan the principal of RA Podar College, Matunga has said that she personally spoke to some fo the Kashmiri students as talking also helps to ease out the stress.

These initiatives are expected to help a lot of Kashmiri students financially and mentally. This will help them to ease out the stress and be positive until everyday life in Valley is resumed to normal and they are connected to their families again.
