Re-Evaluation Fees of Previous Year Earned Mumbai University 2.37 Cr
A Right to Information (RTI) Activist Mr Vihar Durve has brought out the alarming revaluation statistics of Mumbai University and claimed that the students do not trust the assessment. MU has rejected all his claims.
Sum of about 2.37 Crores and 6.77 lakh earned by the University of Mumbai (MU) through re-evaluation and photocopy application fees sequentially between April and October 2018 as revealed by an RTI (Right to Information) Act query. An RTI filed previously had also revealed that in the first half of 2018-19 academic year, a total of 49,516 students had applied for the re-evaluation on over 85,000 answer booklets.
Vihar Durve, an RTI activist said that this reveals the untrust of students on the assessment process of the University. He added that in 2016, the mark sheets were delayed by 6 months as lakhs of students waited for their revaluated marks when MU received as many as 50,000 revaluation proposals.
Previously, another RTI on the same filed by Durve in April 2013 and March 2014 revealed that the total earnings of the University were respectively 2.67 Crores and 15.63 Lakhs in the consecutive academic years. Also, from April 2014 to March 2016, Mumbai University got 4.8 crore rupees and 25.3 lakh rupees respectively against re-evaluation and photocopy fees.
On the other hand, the MU officials have claimed that the number of revaluation requests has come down significantly from 2016. Mr Vinod Patil who is the director of the Board of Examination and Evaluation, MU claimed that MU finance department has replied to these RTIs. Applications that were received in May 2018 were for exams held between March to May 2018. So it will not be right to say that the number of revaluation applications has gone high in the previous (2018-19) academic year.

Durve had claimed that the data shared by the University shows that at least one out of three students apply for re-evaluation and passes the exam after the revaluation process. Many cases suggest that the students are wrongly failed and they have to depend on the re-evaluation for clarity.
