NEET 2017: SC to Hear CBSE Plea on Result Declaration on June 12

  • The vacation bench of the Supreme Court will hear the CBSE plea on June 12, 2017. 
  • The court will also hear plea to transfer NEET related cases that are pending at Madras and Gujarat High Courts.

On June 9, 2017, the Supreme Court of India revealed it would hear CBSE or Central Board of Secondary Education plea for the declaration of NEET-UG 2017 results on June 12, 2017. The High Court of Madras put the date for the declaration of NEET-UG 2017 result on hold after a medical aspirant filed a plea stating that the question paper for vernacular languages in the national-level medical examination was not uniform. Recently, CBSE had asked Madras HC a stay on NEET-UG 2017 results. Earlier, the apex court of India dismissed any plea to hear from CBSE has now agreed to do so after Manider Singh, Additional Solicitor General requested for an urgent hearing.

The vacation bench of Justice Ashok Bhushan will hear the CBSE plea on June 12, 2017. On the same day, the court will also hear plea to transfer NEET related cases that are pending before Gujarat and Madras High Courts.

The plea that was filed in the High Court of Madras sought the re-examination claiming the difficulty level of questions in regional language papers. There were also similar allegations from West Bengal where students claimed that question papers in Bengali were difficult than English medium question paper.

The plea that was filed in Gujarat High Court also deals with the difficulty level of question paper in Gujarati medium. The parents also expressed concern that their children might not get good ranks and deprived of getting a seat. They also sought CBSE's intervention to prepare a separate merit list for Gujarati medium students.

On the other hand, filling counter affidavits to Gujarat HC and Madras HC, CBSE claimed that the questions in regional language papers were easier than English medium.
