In compliance with National Medical Commission (NMC) Bill 2017, the Government of Uttar Pradesh has implemented two-year mandatory rural service bond in medical and dental courses. In an official notification issued by the state government earlier this month, rules, regulations and guidelines have been laid down by the state government for the compulsory rural service bond. The government also specified the bond amount, and if the medical students go against/ violate the bond, he/ she has to submit the prescribed bond amount to the state government.

The details about the bond amount for various medical and dental courses can be checked below: -

  • The bond amount fixed for medical and dental (MBBS and BDS) courses is Rs. 10 lakhs.
  • Similarly, MDS/ PG Diploma students will have to pay Rs. 20 lakh if they violate the guidelines of the bond.
  • For MCh/ DM students, the bond amount will be Rs. 1 crore.
  • Finally, for MS/ MD students, the bond amount has been fixed at Rs. 40 lakh.
  • All the students must adhere to the guidelines to avoid payment of the bond amount.

According to sources, other states across the country are also expected to implement the similar rules soon.

The panel that submitted recommendations on NMC Bill 2017 urged for the implementation of ‘minimum compulsory period’ for doctors working within the country.

The NMC Bill will see the light of the Parliament soon. The Union Cabinet has also dropped the proposal to implement bridge course for AYUSH doctors. A decision regarding National Licentiate Exam (NLE) will be taken soon.
