North-Eastern Region to Get 22 New ITIs

The industrially backward regions of the North Eastern part of India will soon be getting 22 new ITIs, popularly known as Industrial Training Institutes.
While answering questions about the same, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, informed that with a mission to enhance skill development infrastructure in the NE states, the Sikkim Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has proposed to set up 22 new ITIs in the North Eastern region.

The total expenditure estimated for one ITI is Rs. 950 lakhs. Of this, Rs. 855 lakhs will be borne by the Centre and the remaining amount of Rs. 95 lakhs will be shared by the state.
He also mentioned that the ministry is planning to set up 1500 other Multi-Skill Training Institutes (MSTIs) in the unreserved blocks and areas wherein the private sector will also be actively involved.
A meeting to discuss the above proposal was organised by the expenditure finance committee on April 19, 2016.
The minister further informed that the cabinet note is under preparation. Once the scheme is approved, it will be implemented immediately.
