Number of Indian Students in US Continue to Rise
The number of Indian students pursuing higher education in the U.S. has gone up by 5.37%. With the flexible course curriculum that offers students with an option to change the course multiple times , US continues to be the favourite destination among the students.
According to the US Embassy reports, the number of Indian students pursuing higher education in the US has increased by 5.37% per cent as compared to last year. Around 1,96,271 Indian students moved to the US for higher education. In the year 2017, the total number of Indian students visiting the US was 1,86,267.
As per the Open Doors 2017-18 report, the number of Indian students in the US has increased by 5.4% to 1,96,271 in past one year. The report was published by the Institute of International Education.
One of the main reason for Indian students to choose the U.S. is that the universities have a flexible course curriculum which provides students with an opportunity to change stream multiple times. This is one of the main reason that Indian students prefer students U.S. as the study abroad destination.

Indian is the second largest community when it comes to international students. The first in the list is China with one-third of the total international students.
However, there has been negative growth in many countries such as South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Mexico and Canada. South Korea has witnessed a drop of 15% followed by Mexico with 8% and at last South Korea and Canada with a negative growth of 7% and 4% respectively.
Joseph Pomper, Minister Counsellor for Consular Affairs said that India has witnessed a positive growth in terms of students going to the US for higher education. From the past 10 years, the number of Indian students choosing the US has doubled.

Students are more aware and know that US education offers great exposure opportunities. The top host states are New York, Texas, California, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.
