Officers of Indian Railways to Visit IITs, IIMs for Advanced Research & Studies

Indian Railways is planning to enhance the skills of its employees through lessons at India’s premier engineering and management institutes. 20 officers from different departments of the Indian Railways will be sent to IITs and IIMs for rail-related advanced studies and research.

Various fellowship schemes have been introduced at premier institutes including IITs, IIMs, centres of excellence, central and state universities for the skill enhancement railway officers. The officers will also be provided with opportunities to pursue master programmes at these institutes.

20 railway officers from mechanical, electrical and civil engineering disciplines have been issued notices by the Indian Railways to join M.Tech programmes. Other training programmes will also be introduced in collaboration with railway PSUs such as IRCTC, IRCON, etc.

The evaluation of these railway training programmes will be done by professional agencies according to the policies laid down by the Indian Railways. Rs. 5 lakh will be spent on each of these officers during the tenure of the course. This training fund will be provided by the Indian Railways.

According to the statement released by the Railway Ministry, these training programmes will help the officers of the Indian Railway to walk hand-in-hand with the fast-changing transport environment. By enrolling officers in technical and management-level academic programmes, the ministry aims to enhance their skills and ease the process of innovation and modernization.

The ministry is also planning to collaborate with various educational institutes to encourage research and encourage candidates to study the sustainable methods of enhancing transportation through railways.
