Pranab Mukherjee Calls for Proper Environment in Indian Institutes
Former President Pranab Mukherjee has said that the lack of proper environment in institutions of India is a matter of serious concern. He also talked about the importance of getting quality education right from school level.
Former President of India, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday, 15th December 2018, expressed his concern over lack of proper environment in various institutions of India. He said that there is a lot of scope for improvement in terms of both infrastructure and quality of education.
In his speech at the 10th Foundation Day celebration of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ranchi , Mukherjee referred to the three Indian graduates who were awarded the Nobel prize while they were working abroad.
Mukherjee said that no Indian working in basic research in Indian University has got Noble prize after 1930. The first and the last Nobel prize winner was Sir C V Raman. He mentioned the names of the three Indian graduates, Hargobind Khurana from Punjab University, Amartya Sen from Calcutta University, and Subramaniam Chandrasekhar who were awarded the Noble prize while not working in Indian universities.

The former President also said that physical expansion of the infrastructure facility in higher education is not enough and that the quality of education should be taken up seriously right from school level. He cited the example of Rabindranath Tagore who used to teach students at the primary level.
He further stressed the importance of innovation, research and total development of the faculty. By stating examples of prominent personalities like Sarvapali Radhakrishnan and Swami Vivekananda, he pointed out that education is not just collection of information, but it should be assimilated and along with assimilation, education must build up the inherent strength of the students.

In his speech, he said that it is extremely important to not just have plenty of educational institutions but to have quality education right from school time. He believes that it is essential to look keep a tab on the growth of the Indian economy as it marches towards development.
