The Punjab State Government recently decided that they will be renovating two medical colleges in the state. However, the teachers in the Punjab medical colleges have strongly opposed the decision taken by the government, stating that the “move will open up a backdoor for Private players”.

After the decision was taken, the Punjab State Medical and Dental Teachers Association had called a General Body. All the members of the committee opposed the decision. Sources state that the members of the committee said that the government was in a predicament in the functioning of the two medical colleges in the state. They further added that the state government had fallen into bankruptcy. Furthermore, the member compared the initiative undertaken by the neighbouring states of Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. They stated that the government of both states has been able to set up 5 different medical colleges in the state. The inability of maintaining the medical colleges in the state is proof of the government’s bankruptcy, stated the members.
