Research Colloquium hosted by MICA Research Committee

The Mudra Institute of Communications Ahmedabad (MICA) recently hosted Research Colloquium under the supervision of its Research team. Dr. Jyotika Ramaprasad, University of Miami, USA, was one of the distinguished scholars who gave a presentation on Communication for Social Change at the Colloquium.

During her presentation, she talked about her academic work and how she conducted her research using participatory research methods in order to understand and explore various communities, their life and world.

Elaborating the research work done by her, she said that she also studied the situation of the Roma – a nomadic group that possibly migrated from India to Europe several centuries back. She further added that they face discrimination in various parts, especially in Europe. They also face a lot of prejudice when it comes to the availability of medical facilities and treatment in medical settings.

Professor Jyotika used both qualitative and quantitative methods to conduct a formative research on a Macedonian Community, formerly part of Yugoslavia. She analyzed the problems to understand the situation on the ground so that interventions could be developed to tackle this issue.She also did a deep study on the lifestyle, societal norms and structures created by the group so that the culture of the group could be understood better.

Her research highlighted the normative framework of a Formative Research that is done with the help of mixing and matching the primary and secondary data collection as well as qualitative and quantitate research methods. Dr. Jyotika’s research has been a pivotal element to emphasize on cross-cultural research and motivate more people to embrace the subject.
