'SUK' Reviews Paper Security After Mumbai Varsity Incident

In light of the cheating scam that took place in Mumbai University, the Shivaji University, Kolhapur (SUK) conducted a review of its answer sheet security. A university official said that after they learned about the incident at Mumbai University, the review was taken up on an urgent basis.

Eight employees of Mumbai University were arrested on Friday for sneaking answer sheets of first-year engineering students out of the examination centre. Answer sheets were given to a few students, who took them home, rewrote the answers and returned them to these officials.

The accused were caught while trying to place the answer sheets back into the bundle. They were found to be in possession of at least 92 answer sheets of applied mathematics, an exam which took place on May 11.Mahesh Kakade, controller of examinations (CoE) of the university told that a review of the central assessment program (CAP) was taken on Saturday. Following this, staff members have been instructed to keep a strict vigil in and around the strong room areas.

"Some staff members who were supposed to protect answer sheets have indulged in these incidents in Mumbai. Apart from reviewing the situation and increasing the security we cannot do much here. On the review part, Kakade told , "We have reviewed the physical security, the number of staff members and their roles as well as people who are in charge of the strong room. Answer sheets are kept in strong rooms. We have restricted the entry to the room to only authorized personnel."

There are as many as seven CAP centres functional across Kolhapur, Sangli and Satara districts. Answer sheets of students from more than 30 engineering colleges and kept at these centres.
