Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalitha Passes Away, Schools & Colleges to Remain Shut for 3 Days
Jayalalithaa Jayaraman was an Indian politician who served five terms as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. She passed away yesterday night (5th December 2016) at around 11:30pm.
Following the demise of Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu - Jayalalitha, all the educational institutes in the state will remain closed for three days ie. from 6th December to 8th December 2016.
The Principal Secretary official to the school education department, namely Sabitha D clarified all the confusion related to the working status of schools and colleges in the state. She revealed that the educational institutes will be shut from Tuesday until Thursday this week.

Jayalalitha had been admitted to Apollo Hospital in Chennai on 22nd September 2016 because of a kidney failure. She was on her way to recovery, however, suffered a sudden cardiac arrest on Sunday night (4th December 2016). She was put on a life-support system but her condition continued to deteriorate. She passed away yesterday night (5th December 2016) at around 11:30pm.
The government of the state announced a 7-day mourning during which the national flag on almost all government buildings will be flown at half-mast. Apart from that, no entertainment or cultural event will be held in this period, revealed the Chief Secretary of the state, Mr. P. Rama Mohana Rao.
Additionally, schools and colleges in the neighbouring UT (Union Territory) - Puducherry will also remain closed today ie. 6th December 2016, as a mark of respect to CM Jayalalitha.
