Tamil Nadu School Holiday 13 December 2024: The administration units of various districts in Tamil Nadu, such as Madurai and Mayiladuthurai have declared holidays in the schools of all classes for December 13, 2024, due to excessive rainfall in the region. M.S. Sangeetha, the Madurai Collector declared a holiday, followed by Mayiladuthurai district collector A.P. Mahabharathi considering the heavy rains across the districts in the early hours of the day. Along with this, the schools and colleges of Tiruchi and Thanjavur also declared a holiday for 13 December 2024. Considering the heavy rainfall. the Union Territory of Puducherry declared that the colleges and schools of Karaikal and Puducherry will also be closed on 13 December 2024.

According to the IMD’s weather report, an orange alert has been declared for Coimbatore, Thiruvallur, Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Thanjavur, Madurai and many other districts, so, the chances of continuation of shutdown are much higher in these districts indicating the likelihood of moderate to severe rainfall along with the thunderstorms.
Tamil Nadu School Holiday: List of Holiday Districts on Thursday
On December 12, multiple districts had announced a holiday. Prominent districts in it were under red or yellow alert. The list includes: Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Ramanathapuram, Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur, Pudukottai, Ariyalur, Tiruvannamalai, Karur, Vellore, Ranipet, Tirupatur, and Thoothukudi. Karaikal received 8 cm of rainfall while Adiramapattinam, Vriddhachalam, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Cuddalore, Poonamallee, Red Hills in Chennai, and Nungambakkam in Chennai are all receiving between 5 to 7 cm of rainfall.While the government and local authorities are working to minimize disruptions, the public is urged to exercise caution. Commuters are advised to check for road closures and avoid flood-prone routes. As the weather situation continues to evolve, officials will assess the conditions to determine whether schools in the affected districts will remain closed on subsequent days.
