The Kolhapur Institute of Technology (KIT) College of Engineering has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the a city-based company for recycling electronic waste. The MoU, signed.The professor said that their first attempt was successful with promising results. "We are still exploring innovative means of recycling," she said.

Sanandam mentioned said that audio visual components, televisions, stereo equipment, mobile phones, and computer components contain valuable material, including lead, copper, and gold, suitable for reclamation.
Properly disposing or reusing electronics can help prevent health problems, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and create jobs.


The electronic waste or e-waste comprises discarded electrical or electronic devices. Used electronic devices which are destined for reuse, resale, salvage, recycling or disposal are also considered electronic waste.will give students and faculty members a chance to explore innovative ways of recycling.

The improper processing of electronic waste has adverse effects on human health as well as the environment. "Electronic scrap components contain potentially harmful material such as lead, cadmium, beryllium, and need to be recycled properly. This will help to recycle e-waste, reclaim metals, and reduce garbage disposal problem in a city like Kolhapur

KIT's biotechnology engineering students, along with Sanandam, have recycled electronic waste supplied by the company using water hyacinth, vegetable waste and fruit waste.

"This will help to recycle e-waste, reclaim metals, and reduce garbage disposal problem in a city like Kolhapur," she said, adding that using water hyacinth might also be useful in reducing the pollution in Rankala lake and Panchganga river.
