The University Grants Commission (UGC) will launch a Life Skills Curriculum as part of its Quality Mandate initiative in non-technical UG level education. Topics like ‘Social and Cultural Etiquette’, ‘Love and Compassion’, ‘Effective use of Social Media’, ‘Ethics and Integrity, have been included in the curriculum.
The introduced curriculum would be suggestive in nature, which is for Life Skills (Jeevan Kaushal). The same is available on the UGC website. Four courses, namely Communication skills, Universal Human Value, Professional skills and Leadership & Management skills have been incorporated into the curriculum.
The Communication Skills course includes learning skills like reading, writing and listening skills. This course will also deal with social media, digital literacy and non-verbal communication.
As part of the Professional Skills course, team skills and career skills like interview, preparing a presentation, internal communication, and skills writing a resume will be taught.
The Leadership and Mangement skills programme deals with managerial skills, design thinking, leadership skills, ethics and integrity, etc.

The Universal Human Value course will teach students topics like compassion, love, empathy, truth, non-violence, righteousness, renunciation, peace, and more like that.

Further, students can choose additional practical modules which would touch upon topics like yoga, emotional well-being and gratitude. Any or some of these modules can be taken according to the requirement of the students.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has also determined a reading list for each of these modules. It has also suggested assessment methods for every course, which are a blend of presentations, Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) tests, self-assessment, etc.

The curriculum will make sure that students or individuals can effectively handle the challenges of everyday life.
