UGC Solicits Public Opinion on University-Industry Linkages
Stakeholders of the education industry have been requested by the University Grants Commission to offer their views and suggestions on the draft report “Enabling and Enhancing University Linkage Programme”.
In order to enhance and build a better relationship between the industries and the educational institutions in India, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked for suggestions and views from the various stakeholders in the industry, which also includes teachers, students and researchers, among others.
The UGC had released a draft report on “‘Social & Industry Connect for every Institution’, wherein, the stakeholders may offer their views and suggestions on the issue. The draft, named “Enabling and Enhancing University Linkage Programme” has been worked upon by The Working Group, which had been established by the UGC itself. The Working Group had been constituted to intensively research about the subject, while also designing a roadmap to implement the changes that will lead to the improvement of the collaborations.
The UGC stated, the working group has recommended particular measures to develop an eco-system which will enable, foster and enhance University-Industry linkages. The Commission stated that they have decided to seek views and suggestions on the issues from all the stakeholders, including students, teachers and all other parties involved in the industry.
The University Grants Commission further added that the draft report on “Enabling and Enhancing University Linkage Programme has been uploaded on its official website. Stakeholders have been requested to send in their views and suggestions on the report available on their website, latest by 22nd November 2019.
The report has been developed by the Working Group, which consisted of Dr Renu Batra, Dr D Yogeswara Rao, Prof Rupinder Tewari, Prof Dileep Makhede, Prof I K Bhat, Prof Ravindra D Kulkarni and Prof A K Sapre.

The reports stated that the key to the development of the desired skill-set, as per industry requirements, lies in an “active engagement of industry personnel in academic activities” which is partnered with the right exposure to the students/research scholars in the various industry settings with the help of internships.

The reports further stated that “the alliance has been operative” in other developed countries and has been working strong for almost 4 decades. It stated that the alliance has remained undisturbed, irrespective of the changes and variation in the political landscape. Further, they added India is yet to comprehend the full capacity of the University-Industry linkages, even though there are over 1,000 universities, except for a few isolated cases.
