UP Medical College to Get 1,000 Additional MBBS Seats
Uttar Pradesh Medical Colleges are under the process of being revamped to accommodate more students under its programme for MBBS. The plan is to increase the seats by 1,000 with 300 seats allocated to the students of EWS Category. 8 New Medical Colleges will begin its services from 2021.
Medical Education Minister Ashutosh ‘Gopalji’ Tandon informed that the number of seats in the MBBS programmes of UP Medical Colleges will be increased by 1,000 from the upcoming academic session of 2019-20.
During the press conference, he also stated that the Medical Council of India (MCI) has approved to add 100 seats in seven of the medical colleges in cities like Ayodhya, Badaun Bahraich, Basti, Firozabad and Shahjahanpur.
He further informed that the rest 300 seats will also be approved by the MCI. The 300 seats that were yet to be approved by the MCI have been reserved for the candidates belonging to the economically weaker sections of the society (EWS Category) in the colleges of Uttar Pradesh. As of now, Medical Colleges in UP currently hold 1990 MBBS seats.
To incorporate the additional seats in the medical colleges of UP, Tandon announced that 8 government medical colleges were already under construction. The admission to these colleges will begin from the academic year starting from 2021. He also released a statement stating that the process for employing the additional number of faculties for 5 of the Medical Colleges in UP has already been completed.

The six Medical Colleges in Agra, Gorakhpur, Jhansi, Kanpur, Meerut and Prayagraj have been updated as well. The medical colleges in Gorakhpur and Prayagraj have been provided with extra wards as well as buildings for different departments.
