Self-esteem is thoughts, feelings and opinions we have about ourselves. The self-esteem depends on upon the way we think. For example, if you stand in front of a mirror, what do you observe generally? You might observe yourself, sometimes admire yourself and you want to look more beautiful or handsome when you stand in front of the mirror. Why do you want to look beautiful or handsome? There are various reasons.

Similarly, when you think about yourself negatively, what makes yourself negative? Have you ever thought about it? Here comes self-esteem. Sometimes people often curse and abuse themselves for the mistakes they have committed. These people are characterized by low self-esteem. Why do you curse or abuse yourself? Try to think about the mistake you had committed earlier and analyze why did you do that. Simply, when you think about yourself negatively, try to analyze the thing related to what makes negative and try to overcome negative which creeps in your mind. Try to replace negative with positive. A person who tries to overcome his negative thoughts with positive thoughts, he/she is characterized as a person with high-self esteem.

For example, let's take the example of Thomas Alva Edison. In the process of inventing the electrical bulb, he failed thousand of times. Did he think to stop the experiment? Obviously, no. He tried continuously and achieved success. Low self-esteem creeps into your mind when you lose confidence in yourself. So, when you are assigned any work or given a chance to participate in something, do not hesitate. Do not think that you cannot do it. Think positively and face the challenge. The self-esteem develops when you face everything confidently and positively. If you fail in doing the task, do not abuse or curse yourself. Instead, analyze the mistakes you have committed while performing the given tasks.

It is generally observed in some of the students that when they are assigned a task by the teacher, they think that they cannot do it and give an instant reply by saying that, ‘I think I cannot do it’. Always believe nothing is impossible with sincere effort and hard work. Self-esteem develops if you think that you can achieve anything.

Self-esteem and self-confidence are different and related to each other. Self-esteem is the way you think about yourself. If you think in a positive way about something then you can execute it confidently. So, self-esteem develops confidence. The way of thinking plays an important role in developing self-esteem and executing the ideas properly with your positive thoughts develops confidence.

Finally, to conclude, never bother about what people think about you. You bother yourself about what you think about yourself. It may sound confusing, but this is the fact through which self-esteem can be developed. If you think yourself, you can develop your attitude, behaviour, and lifestyle. You are a hero and you are a villain for yourself. Hope that you understood the logic.
