The UGC NET Sociology December 2025 exam is scheduled to be conducted on January 2, 2026 (Shift 2), and students are now in the most crucial phase of preparation. At this stage, studying everything blindly is neither practical nor smart. What works best is a topic-wise and weightage-based preparation strategy.

The UGC NET Exam follows the same pattern every year. It is conducted in computer-based mode and includes two papers - Paper 1 (general teaching and research aptitude) and Paper 2 (subject-specific). While Paper 1 is common for all subjects, Paper 2, Sociology, plays a major role in deciding rank and qualification. This makes it very important to understand which Sociology units carry more marks and which ones have fluctuating or uneven weightage.

Sociology is not a subject where memorisation alone helps. It requires a clear understanding of thinkers, concepts, institutions, and current social issues. An analysis of previous year question papers clearly shows that all units do not carry equal weightage. Some topics are asked every year, some have become important in recent exams, while others show fluctuating trends. Knowing the UGC NET Sociology weightage chapter-wise helps candidates set priorities, revise more effectively, and avoid spending too much time on low-scoring areas.

This article provides a clear explanation of important topics for UGC NET Sociology, categorised into evergreen units, trending units, and units with changing weightage. It also explains how these units overlap and how prospective test takers can plan their UGC NET Sociology preparation more efficiently for December 2025.

  • Many topics in the UGC NET syllabus are repeated across different units. If you prepare these common themes properly once, it saves a lot of time later. For example, concepts studied in Unit 3 also help in understanding Unit 8 and Unit 10, so you do not have to study everything again from scratch.

  • Start your preparation with Units 1, 2, and 3. These units are asked every year and usually carry maximum weightage. They also help in building a strong basic understanding, which makes advanced topics easier to grasp. After completing these units, move on to Units 7 and 9, as they are trending and often include direct and scoring questions.

  • Units 4 to 10 may not have fixed weightage every year, but none of them should be skipped completely. Instead, study them selectively, based on previous year questions and overlapping topics. Try to cover heavier and more difficult units first when your energy level is high, and keep lighter or revision-based topics for the later stage of preparation.

In short, a topic-wise weightage-based strategy is the most effective way to crack the UGC NET Sociology December 2025 with confidence and clarity.

You do need to upload your caste certificate while filling the APRCET application form if you belong to SC/ST/BC categories, as it is mandatory for category-based reservations and fee concessions. However, if your BC caste certificate is still pending (takes about 10 days), you can apply now by mentioning the certificate application number or provisional details if allowed, and submit the actual caste certificate later when available, typically at the document verification stage after the entrance exam or selection. Make sure to keep the official receipts or proof of application to avoid any issues.
