Through an online petition, around 7,400 engineering students expressed their dissatisfaction with the evaluation process of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad. Students termed the evaluation process as faulty, and they filed petitions against the first semester results which were declared on February 7, 2017.

One of the petitioners wrote to VC of JNTU, Prof. Venu Gopal, Reddy, Kadiyam Srihari, Deputy Chief Minister of Telangana and IT Minister, K.Rama Rao calming that he had attempted enough questions in the theory paper. He stated that out of 75 marks, he had attempted correct answers for at least 60 marks and he scored only 16 marks. He was supported by other students who also secured fewer marks and filed petitions through an online platform.

Venkat, one of the students, claimed that he had cleared only one paper out of six papers and two laboratory papers. He secured 70 percent in diploma, and now he has to appear for supplementary examinations due to the faulty evaluation system of the varsity.

Mohammad Ashraf, another student, indicated that only 20 percent students passed in the semester exams from their class. The varsity charges a high amount for supplementary examinations and re-evaluation of answer scripts which cannot be affordable by a student from economically backward class.

Faculty of various colleges has done the evaluation of answer scripts. The varsity has taken all the steps to promote quality evaluation. However, if students have any concerns, they can approach the varsity.
