On August 23, Friday, after laying the foundation stone of Ambedkar University’s two new campuses, Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister of Delhi stated that the number of seats has increased from 1.1 lakh to 1.5 lakh since the year 2015. The CM said that spreading quality higher education was one of the goals of the government.

Arvind Kejriwal stated that every developed country across the world has a robust education system. He also added that to make India a developed nation it is important to provide quality education irrespective of the socio-economic background.

He further informed that the government is working hard to bridge the gap between the number of students passing out from 10+2 every year and the number of seats available in the all the Delhi and Delhi University Colleges. He explained that every year a total of 2.5 lakh students pass class 12 thus, the gap is still there and also many students drop out of education after class 12. He said that the aim is to cater to more 1 lakh students.

The CM added that the government is planning for world-class skill-based courses and skill-based centers through which the students can enter the job market directly. This will also help the economically backward students get good jobs.

The Ambedkar University is setting up their two new campuses in Dheerpur village and Rohini. The strength of Ambedkar University will increase to 8000 from 3400 after the completion of the two new campuses of Ambedkar University.

Manish Sisodia, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Higher Education said that there is no financial relationship between the universities and governments hence, it is important for the universities to share important insights with the government so that it can back them up and help them flourish. He also added that the government is encouraging the universities to focus more on research.
