According to the UGC Chancellor, Professor D.P Singh, the University Grant Commission is all set to increase the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) by 30% or more in the coming years along with the improvement in the quality of education provided by higher institutions. According to the records, the GER of the 2017-18 academic year was 25.4 % with a rise of 3.66 crore students enrolling into higher education institutions.
With the increase in the number of students enrolling to the higher education system, some changes ought to be made in the current education system to maintain the quality of Education. Hence, UGC has decided to upgrade the quality of education provided in these institutions. Here are some objectives of UGC for the Education Quality Upgradation:
- Regular Revision of Curriculum
- Soft SKills
- Better Employment Facilities
- Motivation to Self Employment
- Social - Industry Connect
- Availability of Teachers

Professor Singh also added that UGC and Ministry of Human Resource Development had a three-day conference regarding the same issue and came up with close to 10 resolutions to implement in the current educational system for the betterment of research & innovation of higher educational institutions. Here are some of the resolutions :
- Universities must achieve UGC Quality Mandate
- More affiliated institutions in UGC
- Implementation of Output-Based Curriculum
- Research Productivity Development
- Vocal Studies Development
- National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme to provide higher education
Other Experts from the conference mentioned that there was a discussion on socio-economic development of the community by the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan under which students of at least five villages would be encouraged to seek higher education. Also, the development of smart & Clean campuses would be taking place in the coming years.

This initiative of UGC would provide education to a large number of students in the coming years, it would be even better if UGC and Ministry of HRD come together and also look into the employment facilities to all the students passing out in future.
