HRD Ministry: No Proposal to Recognise Master's Degree from Foreign Countries
Ministry of Human Resource Development has announced that there are no proposals to recognise international degrees of one-year master’s programmes. As of now, the University Grants Commission has set up a committee to look out for a way in giving such recognition.
The Human Resource Development Ministry has stated that there are no provisions that have been made to recognise any one-year Postgraduate programmes that have been obtained from countries apart from India. As per the statement made by the new HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, the Association of Indian has given equivalence to those degrees that are provided by the Universities and institutions that have either been approved, accreditated or recognised. However, this is applicable to degrees that are conducted for a duration of 2 years.
The Minister went on to say that signing a Memorandum of Understanding which has been made to consent mutual recognition of the different qualifications will be next to impossible as various degrees have different qualifications.
Pohkriyal stated that there had not been any provision to bring together a committee that could recognise a one-year degree for postgraduate programmes had been made. He, however, added that a committee under the leadership of the chairman of the University Grants Commission had been set up to survey and study the problems that were present in providing the equivalence to the different qualifications that had been obtained from different countries at different levels of education. The committee had come up with various recommendations that had been made keeping in mind the different academic jurisdiction of each of the countries.

HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ also stated that efforts are being made to recognise the different educational institutions, as well as the various programmes that are offered by them, in the different countries. The efforts will ensure that the degrees will be given equivalence in India at different levels. The same may take place for Indian Degrees in those countries as well, he further added.
