ICMR to Set Up Centre for Product Development at NIMS Hyderabad
Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) will soon set up a National Centre for Product Development at Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) Hyderabad. ICMR will set up a state-of-the-art ‘Pharmcodynamics and Pharmacokinetics’ laboratory & research centre at NIMS.
With an objective to make Hyderabad a hub for drug testing, clinical research and drug development, the ICMR (Indian Council for Medical Research) is setting up a National Centre for Product Development at Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) Hyderabad . ICMR will set up a product development centre at NIMS with an estimated cost of Rs. 7 crore.
The National Centre for Product Development , which will be set up at NIMS Hyderabad is unique, and it is the first-of-its-kind initiative in South India. ICMR is also planning to set up similar centres in Lucknow, Chandigarh and Mumbai.
NIMS Director, Dr. K. Manohar revealed that ICMR would set up a state-of-the-art ‘Pharmcodynamics and Pharmacokinetics’ laboratory and research centre at NIMS. The facility will come up on the seventh floor of NIMS Millennium Block. The officials of ICMR visited the NIMS campus on March 09, 2019, to interact with authorities of medical institutes on setting up the laboratory, he added.
NIMS Hyderabad is the only medical institute in South India that will have an ICMR facility. The National Centre for Product Development of ICMR will play a dominant role in framing national guidelines for the use of existing and new drugs, testing the feasibility of drugs and research & development.

The officials of ICMR are planning to start the project of setting its facility in NIMS from the current financial year itself. The ICMR facility will be a major boost to the development of clinical pharmacology. The new ICMR facility at NIMS will also focus on allied disciplines of clinical pharmacology such as translational and pharmaceutical medicines.
