IIT Madras Introduces Five Year techMBA Programme
The Indian Institute of Technology Madras becomes one of the first institutes to launch an integrated programme that joins two programmes from different disciplines. The engineering students from IIT Madras will be able to pursue a techMBA programme that combines B.Tech with MBA.
In another addition to the many firsts that have been witnessed at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras , the aspiring engineering students of India will now be able to pursue both technical as well as managerial education. IIT Madras will be launching a new “techMBA” programme that will be available to the students of all the undergraduate engineering programmes, as stated by the officials from the Institute. On completion of the programme, the students will be awarded two different degrees, i.e. the engineering degree ( B.Tech ) programme that they had been pursuing along with an MBA degree.
The TechMBA programme is the brainchild of the Department of Management Studies at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras. As per the statements that have been made by the department, the programme will be a part of the 5-year Inter-Disciplinary Dual Degrees programme (IDDD).

IIT Madras will be introducing the programme at the institute from the academic year 2019-20. They announced that the programme will see an intake of 25 to 30 students per batch. The programme, which will be offered by the Department of Management Studies and will be part of the curriculum of the students from the 3rd and the 4th year of all the different UG programmes in engineering offered by the Institute. The interested students who wish to continue the programme for the fifth year will need to pass the eligibility criteria for the same. The selection for the fifth year of the programme includes the CGPA of the student along with an aptitude test and/or personal interview.

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras has released a statement upon the launch of the programme stating that the students will be given the opportunity to learn the and specialise in the carefully designed and curricula which have integrated the courses of engineering and management. They stated that the USP of the programme is in the pedagogy approach, the curriculum structure as well as the learning outcomes of the programme. These combined together is expected to bring together academia with the organisational practices.
