IIT-Madras to Stage ‘Kirmeeravadham’ Kathakali

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras will soon provide its stage for cultural creativity. A Kathakali programme -- Kirmeeravadham will be organized at the Central Lecture Hall of the institute on the 19th of November, 2016.

The Kathakali programme will be organized by Uthareeyam, a Chennai-based club where classical art lovers groom their skills. The show ‘Kirmeeravadham’ meaning the slaying of Kirmeera is a story based on one of the acts of Mahabharata. It was written by Kottayam Thampuran.
The play will start 6pm on November 19 and it is the club’s 25th programme in Chennai. Uthareeyam was founded by four youths in 2012 who are currently working in Chennai. The club has been promoting education regarding classical art forms like Kathakali, Chakyarkoothu and Koodiyattam among students and other youths.
Chennai has always embraced cultural and classical forms of art. IIT Madras being a part of the city has now stepped ahead in the arena of cultural learning and has invited Uthareeyam to perform on its campus.
