IITs Feature in Reuters List of Asia Pacific’s most Innovative Universities

The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) have made it to the Reuters List once again and have established themselves as one of the most innovative universities of the Asia Pacific. The said list includes a total of 75 institutions from across all the continents.

However, the ranking of IITs has gone four positions from their ranking last year. The countries that majorly dominate the list of being the most innovative universities in the region of the Asia Pacific are China and South Korea.

25 universities out of the total 75 in the list are from South Korea and China. The top three positions have been secured by the South Korean Universities. The first position is given to the Seoul National University of South Korea, the second position was bagged by the country’s Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, and the third position was given to another university of South Korea called Pohang University of Science and Technology. There are 19 universities each from the countries of Japan and South Korea in the list.

As far as the institutes from India are concerned, it is only the IITs that have managed to make a place for themselves in the list. A report that was released last year states that this is because of the twenty-three institutes which have the centralised patent administration.

An official said that the top IITs like IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi might have received a higher ranking on the list had they not been grouped with the newer and smaller IITs like IIT Palakkad and IIT Tirupati .
