A proposal to make KCET a one-day affair has been sent to the state government by a Department of Higher Education expert committee. This move will make the adoption of online examination easier.

The executive director of the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) Vishal Kishor Suralkar said that a proposal to change the KCET exam pattern by reducing the maximum marks for each subject to 40 from the current maximum marks of 60 is also being considered. Recommendation regarding conducting the KCET exam in a single paper comprising of all the four subjects is also being considered. If the proposal gets the requisite approval from the Government, soon KCET will be added to the list of those competitive exams which are conducted in a single day.

The possibility of conducting the KCET exam on a single day in two sessions also cannot be judged out if seem feasible added the KEA executive director. Both the ideas have been presented to the Government who will consider them reach a conclusion. Public input will also be taken into consideration to reach a final conclusion after receiving the nod from the Government. Earlier also, this proposal was sent to the government but it faced stiff opposition from the academicians leading to the conduct of the exam over two days.

This change will help the conducting body conduct the exam in online mode as well. A few tech firms have also shown interest to assist the government conduct the exam online. If all goes well, the new pattern is expected to be implemented from the upcoming year, reported a higher education department senior official.

KCET is conducted by the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) to give admission to B.E and B.Tech admissions to students in the state colleges and institutions. As of now, KCET is conducted over a period of two days in multiple sessions - four sessions to be precise. On the first day, Biology and Mathematics paper is conducted in the morning and evening sessions respectively. While on the second day, Physics and Chemistry papers are conducted in the morning session and evening session respectively.
